Don't get me wrong, I love going to a playgroups/ rhyme times with my toddler. It gives our day a structure, gets him tired him enough to nap. Am grateful that I have met and made lovely mom friends through these playgroups. Recently something made me realise there is a social awkwardness during these playful hours, maybe its only for parents with their first borns; who subconsciously are always trying to fit in or show they have handle on things or maybe its just me.
So the so called Circle time where kids go over and over the nursery rhymes (kids love repetition/ helps them learn), recently my 2 year old has decided he rather read a book or chill on the side on kiddy sofa while he waits for his favourite rhymes to be sung. Though he is calmly waiting and quite enjoying himself ; that feeling of disapproval by the host / sometimes fellow parents, makes me so uncomfortable that it makes me join in more to the rhymes. I find myself singing much louder with proper hand gestures even when he is not around and not bothered what I am upto. He will come to me when its 'going to the moon time'. Don't know about you all but I find myself quite tired chasing for this approval which if I think about it doesn't really matter. Its the constant behaving in a polite and educated manner really energy draining. Have you ever felt the pressure of playgroups?
Anyways - Hope you enjoy the artwork I created inspired from Peacock feathers. This was originally designed for a challenge. I am excited to say its now available on my Society 6 shop.
